Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the programme, students will be able to
• listen, recognize and distinguish basic sounds and phonological features of the English Language
• participate in conversation using everyday gestures and common courtesies to convey meaning
• read aloud in thought units using pauses and intonation
• read for general comprehension and extract information required
• practice speaking in English through theatre games designed to enable them to project their expressions and emotions
• practice writing in English through the introduction to basic script writing
• use their creativity to express themselves in skits, games and experiential activities

Excursions and Activities include:

• Experiential learning and thematic approach will be applied to language learning during this programme.
• Resources: Video recording, Drama Props, Multimedia, Audiovisual Aids

Principal College Tour Ice Breaking Session – (games and fun-filled language activities to get to know their friends and the college)

(inculcating awareness for the environment through an excursion to the Botanical Garden)

Students appreciate music through songs. They will also learn to use proper pronunciation, intonation and stress effectively.)

DAY 5

  • A Visit to McDonalds

(Theme: Food for the stomach)

DAY 6

  • Market Street

(experience the kaleidoscope of colours and tradition on a trip to this enchanting street. They learn how to describe, bargain and express opinions / views.)

(Students will be exposed to the magic of props and costumes. They will be able to portray characters and language in a creative and meaningful way. This session will enable them to come up with a creative skit that will be presented on the final week)

(students learn to express ideas and opinions with confidence.)

  • Discussing and deciding on skits to be presented on the last day.

DAY 11

  • Pinang Peranakan Mansion

 (going back in time to learn about alternative ways of living and understanding different elements of culture through a tour to a historical spot.)

(exploring science and technology in order to understand the changes in the world around us.)

  • Newspaper in Education (NIE)

Using newspapers for interactive language learning.)

(Theme: Healthy Lifestyle ‘resuscitate’ your English with integrated language activities)

  • CPR with experts

(hands on experience with animation tools) 

DAY 15

  • Sing, Sing

(Students appreciate music through songs. They will be exposed to some components of grammar and the core skills of language i.e. speaking, listening, reading & writing through songs)

DAY 16

  • Learning English through  ‘Media’

 

  • Broadcasting

(hands-on experience of broadcasting) 

DAY 17

  • Let’s Go on a Holiday!

(Students will get the opportunity to travel round the world and enhance their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills at the same time)

  • A Visit to Kek Lok Si

(Theme: Colours of Penang)

DAY 19

  • Fun with Writing

(this session focus on developing students’ basic skills of wiring in English)

DAY 20

A Visit to Spice Garden (Students will not only buy the ingredients required for their cooking demonstration but will be exposed to vocabulary related to marketing and food. This trip will sharpen their bargaining and negotiation skills)

  • Cook with Us

(Students will use the language of culinary to plan a buffet dinner, complete with beverages, starters, main courses and deserts)

DAY 21

  • Tele-match
  • Preparing skits & projects to be presented the last day

DAY 22

  • Farewell Presentation & Party
