"Spirit of Hilton” for Educom Overseas Students
Bilal Merjan applied for an internship with Educom overseas in Mai 2008 . less than 2 month later, Bilal started his internship at the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort and Spa in August 2008 and less than a year later, he is already one of the best in the world. At least according to the Hilton Hotels Corp., which owns 3,200 hotels in 77 countries.
The company recently presented Merjan with the Spirit of Hilton award -- the highest honor for any Hilton employee -- that is chosen after all of Hilton's properties nominate an employee per month. Only 10 are chosen globally for the honor.
"Merjan has a great, highly motivated personality and hard working ethics. He is always willing to help anyone, in any department ... and in his short period of time with our hotel, Merjan pretty much has worked in every department," said Mac Chaudhry, the Marco hotel's general manager, in a written statement to the Sun Times. "Merjan's skills, knowledge, spirit, motivation ... and willingness to learn at all times makes him a winner ... and the best fit in the hospitality industry."
During a July 6 presentation, Merjan was given a plaque, certificate, a letter from the global head of the Hilton brand, a pin, a $350 certified check and a longtime membership to the Hilton recognition programs and newsletters.
Merjan was nominated for the award because he has gone the extra mile by "rolling tables to the beach during the night when everybody is getting their rest, ensuring requisitions arrive early from the purchasing department and he is always ready to work at anytime and anywhere," Chaundry said.
"(Merjan) is such a role model in this industry," he said. "He is a truly hotelier.
Many of the dedicated students who always seeks opportunities to do something extra, something beyond his call of duties are given a golden opportunity by Educom Overseas to prove them self and be tomorrow’s hospitality leaders.
